C&M Dump Weekend FAQ

What is Dump Weekend all about?

Dump Weekend is C&M’s primary annual fundraiser, with 100% of the money raised going to support programs for the youth of Bedford.  Over a Friday and Saturday in early May the group picks up items from homes in Bedford Village, Katonah, Bedford Hills, and parts of Mt. Kisco (see “Where do you pick up?” below). All loads are transported by C&M to the highway yard on Crusher Road in Bedford Village where usable items are separated from trash.  These items are placed in a tag sale held at the highway yard.  Recyclable items are removed from the trash and delivered to the town recycling facility.  C&M primarily raises money through donations for the pickups, and a small amount from the tag sale.

Do you charge for pickups?

A donation is expected as this is the primary way C&M raises funds during the event.  C&M must pay the Town of Bedford for every load brought into the highway yard, so at a minimum we need to cover that cost.

What is the recommended donation for a pickup?

The recommended donation will vary depending on the amount and difficulty in moving the items we are picking up.  As a general guide, if your items will completely fill the bed of a standard pickup truck bed (picture a box 4 feet wide x 8 feet long x 4 feet high) we hope to receive a donation of approximately $250 (less if your load is smaller, more if it is larger).  The C&M crew that comes to pick up your items will provide a recommended donation amount if requested.

Where do you pick up?

Our “area of operation” is defined by the catchment area of the Crusher Road highway yard, which includes all of Bedford Village and Katonah, plus a small portion of Mt. Kisco that sits north of Pines Bridge Road.  Unfortunately, we cannot pick up in Pound Ridge.  These limitations are set by the town, not by C&M.

What if I don’t need a pickup but have items for the tag sale?

You can bring items to the tag sale by coming to the highway yard on Crusher Road, parking outside the entrance, and walking your items into the tag sale.  If you wish to drive all the way into the highway yard, the town employees will usually charge you for bringing your vehicle in.

What are the hours for the tag sale?

Friday 12-3pm and Saturday 9am-3pm

What if I want to bring my things to the highway yard myself?

While we hope you will schedule a pickup, you can find the guidelines for bringing your vehicle into the highway yard here – Annual Clean Up Days | Town of Bedford, NY

What are these orange bags labelled C&M I see all over the roads in April?

Each year teams of C&M members volunteer to pick up litter along many of the major roads in town simply to make the town look better.  The litter is placed in the orange bags, which are subsequently picked up by the town.  There are other organizations that also do road cleanup in April.  Come late May, if you see a bag you believe may have been missed by the town, please call the Highway Division at 914-666-7669 to have it collected.

What is the Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club?

The Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club (“C&M”) was founded in 1956 with the mission to raise funds for local youth-related programs in the Village of Bedford, NY. The Club raises funds through annual events, Spring Clean-up Weekend “Dump Day” and our annual Dinner Dance. 100% of the funds raised by the Club provide support for youth-oriented programs in Bedford, including arts programs, club and school sports, scouts, athletics, youth outreach, scholarship and community service.  You can learn more about our programs here - About — Chowder and Marching

What is C&M’s mission?

It is our mission to raise funds through community events and to donate all such funds to worthwhile youth-based activities for the children of Bedford Village. Particularly to those activities concerned with the educational, moral, mental, physical and civic betterment of the youth of our community.
